Last Memorial Day weekend was awful. John took the kids to West Virginia to visit over the holiday weekend while me & Jonathan (my oldest) stayed home in Virginia.
I was about 7 months along in my pregnancy and was beginning to feel the full effects of my anemia.
We didn't know as John left early that morning, that life was about to take a drastic and awful change.
Pawpaw had been battling lung cancer but had been keeping his spirits up. But at one of his last doctor appointments, he had been told that further treatment of his cancer would not be successful. A few days after this appointment, the day John left to go to Wva. Pawpaw's health took a horrible turn for the worse and he was rushed to the hospital. Over the next four weeks, Pawpaw slowly started his journey to heaven. It was devastating.
Fast forward to this year. We all made the trip home to Wva. Our nephew Ryan was celebrating his upcoming high school graduation with a luncheon.
The entire family was in town. We had a horseshoe tournament, we ate BBQ, we had a whiffle ball game, and we all visited PawPaw's grave and helped lay the cement for his Air Force plaque.

The weekend was full of smiles and laughter. A few tears were shed, but mostly laughter.
It was one of the best weekends we could remember. Pawpaw would have loved this. What a difference a year makes.
