And it was the only time of year when I was required to knock on Papa Bud's door.
He LOVED Halloween. He loved when we would bring the babies by so they could 'trick-or-treat' with him. Until his health no longer permitted him to walk, Papa ALWAYS answered the door when we would come by. "TRICK -OR-TREAT" the babies would yell in unison and he would smile.
Papa didn't just give you a piece of candy. No sir. He would get a giant ziplock bag and fill it full of the best candy a kid could ask for. Snickers, Reese cups, double bubble, etc.
Being in Richmond for Halloween might be a good idea. It would be hard to trick or treat at Mama Jo's house this year and not see my Papa in his chair with that beautiful smile on his face.
I knew I would miss him, I knew it would be hard. But I didn't know it would be this hard. Some days are just really hard.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I know it's so painful. I miss my Dad and Grandma so much. Somedays are worse then others.
ReplyDeleteHe would be so proud of you remembering him like this. Bless you!!
